Mancini tries to stake claim in City success
Roberto Mancini has once again tried to stake a claim in Manchester City’s recent successes by saying that he was the one who built this team. Manuel Pellegrini won the Premier League title in his first season in charge of the club. He joined the illustrious list of managers like Carlo Ancelotti who came from foreign league to win the domestic league in their first season. Mancini made a lot of noises about him being responsible for the current successes because he signed a majority of the players like Vincent Kompany and Yaya Touré.
Pellegrini has made little changes to the squad since he came to the club, but this has been because of financial restrictions and the squad already being one of the best in Europe. Only players like Stevan Jovetic have been the major buys in Pellegrini’s reign at the club. Currently out of work, Mancini moved to Turkey after being sacked by City. His spell with Galatasaray was not exactly successful and he was replaced by former Italian national team boss Cesare Prandelli. It was speculated that Mancini would be considered for the national team job, but this went to Juventus boss Antonio Conte.
Mancini is now linked with clubs like Inter Milan, who are struggling in the Italian league. "I think that we started to build this team five years ago. In two years we won the Premier League, the FA Cup, we won everything in England. And this current team are playing nine of my players all of the time. I am very happy with that because I know these players. I think it's not easy to build a strong team with only four or five years. You need the time to improve. But we have a big chance also to be one of the best teams in Europe,” said Mancini.
